What is honor-related violence?
Honour-related violence is a specific force against those who do not follow the “norm”. It is about total control of female sexuality, homosexuality, bisexuality and transgender people. Child marriage, forced genital mutilation are also two points of the category. Honour-related violence is a violence that is exercised collectively by an entire family, relatives and sometimes also of a whole society.

What is the biggest challenge? And why do we need?
Although the honor-related violence, particularly against women, is a special character, played down there. Myths spread that there is a specific form of violence, despite the fact that this violence against children, women, men, gay, bisexual and transgender people and rooted in religious fundamentalism and / or conservative traditions. Violence and threats sanctioned by an entire collective, in the worst case the whole of society and the offender / offenders is seen as a hero / heroes. This treated unjustly with all other violence against women and categorized into the “domestic violence” and hence misses both gay, bisexual, transgender and heterosexual men. Many times they say that it is racist to claim that honor-related violence is something other than men’s violence against women.

Honour-related violence is an international concept and not, as some argue, a Swedish concept. It occurs worldwide. The last time we experience, who work against it, to revert back to put a lid on and ignoring the phenomenon.
The problem is that it goes into the foundation of society based on religious, moral values, even in our own legislation and community building. Violence and repression is established early through a gender-segregated education, and threatens the rights of children. When this violence will continue as it is a strong threat to equality and democracy, both in Sweden and other countries.Violence against women and children, it is racist and homophobic. It is therefore imperative to combat this violence and oppression.
